Bellefontaine traveled to Urbana and picked up a 4 to 1 victory. The Chiefs took 2 of the 3 singles matches.
At 1st singles Courtney Sims defeated Hannah Louck 6 – 3, 6 – 3. “Hannah has a big serve and likes to come into the net. Courtney did a good job countering her power and keeping her from being too aggressive at the net” commented Coach Stein.
In second singles Samantha Starkey had to retire against Rachel White at 6 – 7(4), 1 – 1. “Samantha has been hampered with a sore shoulder for the last several matches and today the pain became to intense for her to continue. ”
At 3rd singles Mia Neer won 6 – 0, 6 – 0. “Mia has been showing improvement with each match and her confidence is growing as well,” said Stein after the match.
The Chiefs swept both doubles matches. Na Lin and Gracie Middaugh beat Jazmine Collins and Laci Levy 7 – 6(0), 6 – 1. “We got off to a quick 3 – 0 lead in the first set, but then dropped 5 straight games. We were able to battle back and force a tiebreak. Na and Gracie took control in the tiebreak, then finished off strong in the 2nd set.”
At 2nd doubles Meng Wang and Taryn Mullins defeated Mary Flowers and Lexi Windmiller 6 – 1, 6 – 4. “We played a great first set taking control of the net. The second set was much closer, but we were able to win the big points when we needed them.”
In JV action Leanna Brown and Madison Williams beat Phoebie Heatherly and Maddy Skelton 8 – 4.
The Chiefs are now 5 and 6 overall and 3 and 3 in the CBC. Urbana is now 3 and 7 overall and 1 and 4 in league play. Bellefontaine who has played 8 of their first 11 matches on the road will host Jonathan Alder on Monday.
