The Bellefontaine tennis team finished their dual match schedule with a shut out over visiting Urbana.
In singles Courtney Sims started things off downing Hannah Louck 6 – 0, 6 – 1. “Courtney had a close match the first time she played Hannah this season, but today she got off to a quick start and stayed in control the entire match.,” Coach Stein commented after the match.

Samantha Starkey continued with a win at second singles over Rachel White 6 – 1, 7 – 5. “Samantha started off with a great first set win, then rallied from 4 – 5 down in the second set winning the last 3 games to close out the match. It was nice to see Sam win this match as she had to retire against Rachel earlier this season with an injured shoulder.”

Mia Neer then completed the singles by beating Jazmine Collins 6 – 0, 6 – 2. ” Mia did a nice job today picking up her second win in as many days.”

In doubles Na Lin and Gracie Middaugh topped Heather Packer and Laci Geuy 6 – 4, 6 – 2. Meanwhile Meng Wang and Taryn Mullins defeated Mary Flowers and Lexi Windmiller 6 -3, 7 – 5. “Both doubles matches involved some very competitive sets. This was Senior Night and it was nice to see Na and Taryn both finish their careers with wins,” commented Stein.

In JV action, Pascaline Lakaye won 6 – 0 in singles play while Leanna Brown and Madison Williams fell 3 – 6 in doubles.

The Chiefs finish the season with 9 wins and 11 losses and 7 and 7 in the CBC for a fourth place finish. Urbana finishes 5 – 17 and 2 and 12. “Last year we won just 3 matches. The girls have worked hard this past year, and our success is a direct result of that.”

The Chiefs next competition will be at Sectionals next Tuesday in Troy.
